Why Are We Here? On Soul and Life Purpose

Recently I have received a number of requests from people needing help in finding their life purpose, so I thought I would take the opportunity to write a bit about it.

Many people have the idea that life purpose is some kind of specific mission they are here to accomplish or even a career they are “supposed” to have, but this is not exactly it. Allow me to explain my understanding of life purpose.

There is soul purpose and there is life purpose. Your life purpose is to express your soul purpose and experience, develop and learn those things you came here to learn. And, as my joyful guide Charisse likes to say, “Learn, love and laugh!”

You are an individual soul with individual preferences, gifts, and talents. In your development as a spiritual being you choose to expand on those things that give you joy and meaning – both incarnated and not. While you are in spirit form you learn and help other beings, the same as you would when you are incarnated in a physical body. Your physical incarnations are extended learning environments for what you are developing while non-incarnated.

Your soul purpose then is what your gifts, talents and preferences are while in spirit form – and in physical form. You can discover what they are with an Akashic Records or Soul Realignment consultation, and/or you can do some digging on your own through meditation or coaching. I’ll get to the “how” of it in a bit.

So, then “why am I here?” boils down to the expression of your soul purpose and the experiences you wanted to have while here. Soul purpose is more general than life purpose, since there are myriad ways for you to express your soul purpose. If you take “communication” as a very broad soul purpose, you could express that as, for example, a writer, news anchor, spiritual leader, teacher, radio talk show host, blogger, artist, or speaker. (I am being very general here to make a point. Your Soul Realignment reading goes into much more detail).

Life purpose can be expressed as a career, certainly, but it doesn’t have to be. It can be a hobby, a passion or a quality that you bring to the space you are in, and it changes – it may express itself differently as you grow and evolve. For example, a person who is very nurturing, grounded and practical may express their soul purpose in the care of their family and as a healer. Another who is gifted in manifesting money could be a teacher who helps others learn the skill as well as having a career as a charity fundraiser. A creative person may bring their innovation to their career in research and development and paint landscapes on the weekend.

And this is where the “how do I find it?!” comes in. Look over your life and what you’ve done and been.  Look very closely at those things, events, actions and skills that have brought you the most joy and sense of being truly alive. Then think about your current life and what you would like to do, be or have in the future that brings you a sense of joy, meaning, fulfillment and aliveness. Seek out the common threads between them. This is the magic “X” that marks the spot to dig even further!

As for what you came to learn, develop and experience… I will muse on this in another post! Stay tuned! :-)

One last thing: the key to life – life purpose, success and happiness – is love and joy. Use your intuition and follow your heart (do what you love and that brings you joy) and you will be on the right path.

To your joy, fulfillment and success!

Blessings,

Keena

Following your Bliss – the great combination of inspiration and intuition

“...if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be.” ~Joseph Campbell

When you think of following your bliss, you likely think of following what makes you happy. While this is certainly true, I take it more to mean following your inspiration, and I think this is more in line with the original intention of the saying.

Inspiration can be defined as a flash of insight or a bright idea, even a motivation. Wayne Dyer calls it your ultimate calling and in-line with that I think of it as your Higher Self, your Inner Being, or your Soul “whispering” to you, guiding you, nudging you. What inspires you may not make sense to those around you, but it feels right to you. It is the crux of your authenticity.

Inspiration is what moves you at multiple levels – particularly at the emotional, heart level. You can be inspired by music, art, a glorious sunset, or an expansive landscape vista. Inspiration will also move you on a physical level. Inspiration will stir you to take action - it is the feeling you get when intuition nudges you. You see, your intuition and inspiration are inextricably linked. When you follow your inspiration, you are following your intuition and it will guide you to your most amazing and simply divine life. Intuition will lead you on a journey that your logical mind wouldn’t even dream of! If I think back to my high school days, back when I was thinking about what I would “do with my life” I would never have even guessed at where I would be today! When I gave up what I thought I * should * do and followed my intuition’s lead my life became more effortless and enjoyable, and a lot more fun!

Richard Carlson, author of that brilliant book, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, states:

“...the way to tell if you are working or playing with inspiration is that there is essentially no effort involved. It’s something you feel you must do—you are being called to do it. It’s fun, rewarding, relaxing, and enjoyable. It doesn’t feel like “work” even though from a technical sense, it could be.”

The secret to tapping into your inspiration is to know that it exists, and start noticing it. Be open to the nudgings, the longings of your heart, the whims that tell you to try something you’ve never done before – like writing or painting, taking a new route to work or moving across the country. Maybe you will be inspired to talk to someone new, or pick up a book which will fire up a whole new career direction. If you truly want to be/feel more inspired, you will be.

Once you’ve  decided to take action on your intuition and inspiration, pay attention to the synchronicities! Those are the “doors” that are swinging open as the Universe conspires on your behalf! Remember that this positive shift in our energy affects everything – clearing debris from the path that lays ahead of us and drawing to us like-minded people to give us the information and support we need.

Wherever your inspirations are leading you today, take a step. Take action and manifest your inner urges and soul whisperings.

And lastly, enjoy the whole process with wonder and appreciation. It is, after all, one of the beautiful mysteries of life.

To your joyful inspiration,

Keena
